IPMAT Indore 2026 PI 60-Day Roadmap: Composite Score Maths, 25 Real Questions, Mock-PI Drills (Third Week of July)

IPMAT Indore 2026 results are out — 838 candidates are through to the IIM Indore IPM Personal Interview (PI), tentatively scheduled for the third week of July 2026. That gives shortlisted aspirants roughly 55-60 days to convert the call. The maths is unforgiving: PI weightage is 35% against IPMAT score’s 65%, and at this stage every shortlisted candidate has crossed the sectional minimums — meaning the IPMAT advantage compresses sharply. The PI is genuinely where the IPM 2026-31 batch will be decided.

This guide gives you a 60-day, week-by-week roadmap to walk into IIM Indore campus prepared, with sample question banks pulled from past panels, a mock-PI drill schedule, and a composite-score calculator so you know exactly what you need to score in PI to lock your seat.

The Composite Score Maths: Why 35% Decides Everything Now

IIM Indore’s published Admissions Policy 2026 uses the formula: Composite Score = (0.65 × Normalised IPMAT Score) + (0.35 × Normalised PI Score). Every shortlisted candidate has crossed sectional cut-offs (General: QA-SA 28, QA-MCQ 27, VA 111; OBC-NC: 16/14/70; EWS: 16/17/79), so the IPMAT-score spread inside the shortlist is narrow.

Practical implication: a candidate at the 60th percentile of the shortlist who scores in the top quartile of PI can leapfrog candidates ranked 200 positions above them. Conversely, a top-50 IPMAT scorer with a flat PI (3/10) often drops below the final cut. Don’t coast.

Quick Composite-Score Estimator

Assume IPMAT scores are normalised to 100 and PI scores to 100. If your IPMAT-normalised is 78 (mid-shortlist) and you target a PI score of 82, your composite is (0.65 × 78) + (0.35 × 82) = 50.7 + 28.7 = 79.4. A candidate at IPMAT-normalised 88 with PI 65 ends at (0.65 × 88) + (0.35 × 65) = 57.2 + 22.75 = 79.95. They’re tied — and PI tie-breakers favour communication scores. The lesson: a 17-point PI lead can wipe out a 10-point IPMAT lead.

The 60-Day PI Preparation Roadmap (Weeks 1-9)

Weeks 1-2 (28 May – 10 June): Foundation & Self-Audit

  • Write your “About Me” file — 400 words covering Class 10/12 boards, school, hobbies, family background, why-IPM, why-IIM-Indore, 3-year goal, 10-year goal. This is the spine of every interview.
  • Academic refresh: revisit Class 11-12 textbooks for your top 2 subjects (typically Maths + Economics for commerce students; Maths + Physics for science). Panels routinely ask “explain the difference between elasticity and slope” or “derive the quadratic formula”.
  • News diet: start a 30-min daily ritual — The Hindu editorial + Business Standard front page + one PIB release. Maintain a one-page weekly current-affairs sheet.

Weeks 3-4 (11-24 June): Current Affairs Deep Dive + Extempore Drills

  • Cover Union Budget 2026-27, RBI MPC June review, India’s G20 follow-throughs, Operation Sindoor diplomatic fallout, semiconductor mission updates, and major Supreme Court rulings of 2026 so far.
  • Extempore practice: 1-minute speeches on 5 random topics daily (use a timer; record yourself). IIM Indore frequently gives spot extempore on abstract topics (“a stitch in time”, “is silence golden”) — practise both abstract and topical.
  • GD-style awareness: form a peer group of 3-4 fellow shortlisted candidates and run a 15-min mock discussion every alternate day.

Weeks 5-6 (25 June – 8 July): Mock PIs (the most important phase)

  • Target: 8-10 full-length mock PIs with 3 different panels — at least one with a senior alum, one with a non-IPM CXO/professor, and one with a peer panel. Diversity of feedback matters more than volume.
  • After every mock, write a 200-word self-debrief: what did the panel probe, what answer surprised you, which question rattled you, what’s the fix.
  • Refine your “Why IIM Indore over Rohtak / Bodh Gaya / Jammu” answer — be specific (the Mumbai-campus exposure, the IPM-PGP integration in years 4-5, faculty research output).

Weeks 7-8 (9-15 July): Polish + Stress Inoculation

  • Two stress-mocks where the panel deliberately interrupts, contradicts, or stays silent for uncomfortable stretches. The 2025 IIM Indore PI saw multiple candidates lose composure when the panel asked “convince me you’ll graduate” mid-flow.
  • Practice the “I don’t know, but here’s how I’d approach it” pivot — panels rate intellectual honesty 2x higher than fake confidence.
  • Finalise interview attire (formal Indian or Western business), book travel to Indore (or video-PI logistics), keep a back-up of all certificates scanned + printed.

Week 9 (16-22 July, PI Week): Game Day

  • No new mocks. Re-read your About-Me file, current-affairs sheet, and academic notes once daily.
  • Sleep 8 hours the night before. Eat a light, familiar breakfast on PI day.
  • Reach the venue 60 minutes early. Sit calmly. Do not “compare notes” with co-candidates outside the panel room — it spikes anxiety.

Mock-PI Drill: The 5-Round Structure

Run each mock as a 22-minute session: 2 min warm-up (about-me) → 5 min academic probe → 5 min current affairs → 5 min behavioural/why-IPM → 3 min curveball → 2 min your questions to panel. Score yourself on a 1-10 scale across Clarity, Depth, Composure, Curiosity, Authenticity. Average below 7 = weak; 7-8 = competitive; 8.5+ = elite.

What Sets the Top 10% of PI Candidates Apart

From debrief notes of IPM 2025-30 converts: panel feedback consistently flagged three differentiators — (1) candidates who connected academic concepts to lived experiences (e.g., “I saw price elasticity when my family’s small kirana shop raised prices during Diwali”), (2) candidates who admitted “I don’t know” without losing energy, and (3) candidates whose “Why IIM Indore” answer named a specific elective, faculty member, or campus ritual rather than generic ranking talk.
