IPMAT FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions About IPMAT 2027

IPMAT (Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test) is the entrance exam for the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore. Started in 2011, IPMAT offers Class 12 students direct entry into IIM Indore. The programme combines undergraduate and MBA education over 5 years.

Currently, 10 IIMs offer Integrated Programme in Management: IIM Indore (IPMAT), IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Ranchi (JIPMAT), IIM Rohtak (IPMAT Rohtak), IIM Nagpur, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Raipur. Total seats across all IIMs: approximately 1,153.

IPMAT is conducted by IIM Indore for its own 5-year IPM programme (150 seats). JIPMAT (Joint IPMAT) is conducted by NTA for IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, and IIM Ranchi. Both are for Class 12 students but have different exam patterns, difficulty levels, and accepting institutions.

IPMAT Indore has two parts: Part A — Quantitative Ability (40 MCQs, 40 minutes) and Part B — Verbal Ability (40 MCQs, 40 minutes). Total: 80 questions in 80 minutes. JIPMAT has 3 sections: Quantitative Aptitude (33), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (34), and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (33). Total: 100 MCQs in 150 minutes.

For IPMAT Indore 2027: Must have passed Class 12 with 60% or above (55% for SC/ST/PWD). Must be born on or after August 1, 2007 (under 20 years). No restriction on stream — Science, Commerce, and Arts students can all apply. Gap year students are eligible.

IIM Indore IPM graduates receive the same placement as regular MBA graduates. Average placement for the 2025 batch was ₹25-30 LPA with highest packages reaching ₹50+ LPA. Top recruiters include McKinsey, BCG, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Microsoft, and P&G. 100% placement rate.

A 3-month IPMAT plan: Month 1 — strengthen Quantitative Ability fundamentals (arithmetic, algebra, geometry); Month 2 — focus on Verbal Ability (reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar) + daily practice; Month 3 — full-length mock tests, time management, revise weak areas. Practice 30+ MCQs daily minimum.

IPM Gurukul is an online IPMAT and JIPMAT coaching platform by Ready For Exam. It offers comprehensive preparation for IIM Indore IPMAT, JIPMAT, and IPMAT Rohtak with daily MCQ practice, mock tests, and expert guidance. Courses start at ₹999/year.

IPMAT Indore application fee is approximately ₹4,130 for General/OBC/EWS and ₹2,065 for SC/ST/PWD candidates. JIPMAT fee (through NTA) is approximately ₹1,000-1,500. Application fees are non-refundable and payable online.

IPMAT is generally considered easier than JEE Main in terms of quantitative difficulty, but the verbal section can be challenging. It's significantly easier than CAT (which is for experienced professionals). However, competition is intense with 58,000+ applicants for ~150 IIM Indore seats (acceptance rate: ~0.3%).
