Detailed Eligibility Breakdown
1. Class 10 Percentage Requirement
Candidates must have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or equivalent CGPA) in their Class 10 board examination. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the requirement is 55%.
- CGPA to Percentage: If your board uses CGPA, multiply by 9.5 (CBSE formula). For example, CGPA 7.0 = 66.5%
- Best of 5 vs Aggregate: IIM Indore considers aggregate percentage as mentioned on the marksheet, not best-of-5
- Compartment: If you cleared Class 10 in compartment, you are still eligible provided the final aggregate meets the threshold
2. Class 12 Percentage Requirement
The same 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD) applies to Class 12. Important points:
- Appearing Candidates: Students taking Class 12 exams in 2027 can apply provisionally. Admission is confirmed only after meeting the percentage criteria upon results
- Improvement Exam: If you took an improvement exam, the better of the two scores is considered
- Stream: There is no stream restriction — Science, Commerce, Humanities, and Vocational students are all eligible
3. Age Limit
Candidates must be born on or after a date specified in the official notification (typically ensuring age is 20 years or below as of a qualifying date). This is the most common eligibility issue — check your date of birth carefully against the notification dates.
There is no age relaxation for any category in IPMAT Indore. The age limit is the same (≤ 20 years) for General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD candidates. This is different from many other exams where reserved categories get 3-5 years relaxation.

Frequently Asked Eligibility Questions
Can I apply for IPMAT with a gap year?
Yes. There is no restriction on gap years. Whether you took a drop for JEE/NEET/CLAT or any other reason, you are eligible for IPMAT as long as you meet the age limit and percentage criteria. Many successful IPM students have had 1-year gaps.
I have CGPA, not percentage — what do I do?
Convert your CGPA to percentage using your board’s official formula. For CBSE: CGPA x 9.5. For other boards, check the official conversion certificate from your school or board. If your board does not provide a conversion, IIM Indore may use their own conversion formula — check the official notification.
Can diploma holders apply?
No. IPMAT requires candidates to have passed (or be appearing in) Class 12 from a recognized board. Diploma holders without a Class 12 equivalent qualification are not eligible.
Is there a stream requirement?
No. Students from any stream — Science, Commerce, Humanities, Vocational — can apply. There is no preference given to any particular stream in the selection process.
What if I score exactly 60% in Class 10 or 12?
You are eligible. The criterion is “minimum 60%” — meaning 60% and above qualifies. If your aggregate is 59.9% or below (for General category), you do not meet the eligibility requirement.
- Class 10 Marksheet — for percentage and age proof
- Class 12 Marksheet — or appearing certificate if results pending
- Aadhaar Card / ID Proof — for identity verification
- Passport Size Photo — recent, as per specifications
- Category Certificate — if claiming SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD reservation
- Application Fee — Rs 4,130 (General) / Rs 2,065 (SC/ST/PwD)
T — Twenty (age ≤ 20 years)
A — Aggregate 60% (both Class 10 & 12)
B — Board (any recognized Indian board)
S — SC/ST get 5% relaxation (55%)
Eligibility Mistakes to Avoid
- Not checking date of birth cutoff: The exact cutoff date changes each year — always verify against the official notification
- Confusing best-of-5 with aggregate: IIM Indore considers aggregate percentage, not best-of-5
- Assuming age relaxation exists: Unlike most government exams, IPMAT has NO age relaxation for reserved categories
- Waiting for Class 12 results to register: Register when applications open — appearing candidates are eligible
