IIM Rohtak PI June 2026: Why Past Academics Carry 30% Weightage (And What to Prep Instead)

Student writing notes preparing for IIM Rohtak IPM Personal Interview

IIM Rohtak released the IPMAT Rohtak 2026 scorecard on 20 May 2026, and 1,030 candidates have been shortlisted for Personal Interviews in the first or second week of June. If you are heading into a Rohtak PI, here is the truth most coaching threads quietly skip: past academics carry 30% weightage in your final composite — double the weight of your interview itself. This is a fundamentally different selection design from IIM Indore, and it changes what you should prep, in what order.

The IIM Rohtak IPM 2026 selection formula — full breakdown

The final merit list for IIM Rohtak IPM 2026-31 is computed on a four-component composite:

ComponentWeightage
IPMAT 2026 score (normalised)55%
Class 12 board marks20%
Personal Interview15%
Class 10 board marks10%

Compare this with IIM Indore (65% ATS + 35% PI, zero past academics) and you see the deliberate design choice. IIM Rohtak rewards sustained multi-year consistency. A candidate with 96% in Class 10 and 94% in Class 12 walks in with a meaningful head start that no single PI performance can fully erase. Conversely, a candidate with 72% in Class 10 and 78% in Class 12 needs an exceptional IPMAT score plus a very strong PI to close the gap.

Worked example: where past academics actually move the needle

Consider two candidates, both shortlisted, both interviewing in the second week of June:

  • Candidate P: IPMAT 78, Class 10 = 88, Class 12 = 91, PI = 72
    Composite = (78 × 0.55) + (88 × 0.10) + (91 × 0.20) + (72 × 0.15) = 42.9 + 8.8 + 18.2 + 10.8 = 80.7
  • Candidate Q: IPMAT 78, Class 10 = 74, Class 12 = 77, PI = 86
    Composite = (78 × 0.55) + (74 × 0.10) + (77 × 0.20) + (86 × 0.15) = 42.9 + 7.4 + 15.4 + 12.9 = 78.6

Same IPMAT, but P pulls ahead by 2.1 points despite a much weaker PI — because P had stronger boards. At the IIM Rohtak cutoff bands, 2.1 points is the difference between a confirmed seat and a long waitlist position.

What this means for your June PI prep

1. Stop over-investing in PI. Right-size it.

PI is 15% of the final score. Six 90-minute mock PIs across two weeks is more than enough. Beyond that, marginal returns drop sharply — you are over-rehearsed, which the panel reads as inauthentic.

2. Know your own board marks cold

The single most common Rohtak PI opener: You scored X% in Class 12, why? Whether your boards were strong or weak, have a 90-second answer that is honest and forward-looking. Defensive answers about “syllabus pressure” or “wrong stream” tank the communication rubric instantly.

3. Build subject depth from Class 11 & 12

Rohtak panellists probe academic subjects more than business news. If you were a Commerce student, expect questions on Accountancy concepts (cash flow vs P&L, depreciation methods), Business Studies (organisational structures), and Economics (inflation, supply-demand). Refresh these for 90 minutes a day until your PI date.

4. The Haryana & NCR context advantage

IIM Rohtak panels often touch local economic context — Haryana industrial policy, Maruti-Suzuki’s role in the Gurugram corridor, NCR infrastructure. A 15-minute weekly read of the Haryana business section in The Hindu or Indian Express gives you talking points the panel rarely expects.

The 14-day Rohtak PI sprint plan

  • Days 1-4: Write your form sheet — 5 stories from school life that demonstrate leadership, failure, recovery, curiosity, and teamwork. Memorise none. Internalise all.
  • Days 5-8: Three subject-deep mock PIs — one with a Commerce/Eco specialist, one with a generalist, one with a panel that interrupts.
  • Days 9-11: Current affairs sweep — RBI policy, recent budget, Indian GDP composition, top 3 Indian unicorns, US-India trade. Use daily MCQ practice to keep aptitude warm.
  • Days 12-14: Two stress mocks back-to-back. Sleep early before PI day. Reach venue 90 minutes early.
